Die Futtermacher is the pet food business of Bächle GmbH in Villingen-Schwenningen, on the edge of the Black Forest. The family company started out trading hides for leather, moved into rind and bone trading for the gelatine industry in the 1960s and meat trading in the early 1980s, and has produced BARF raw food since 1984. Its range now covers BARF raw food, canned food and dry snacks for dogs and cats.
The products are sold through a structured dealer network across Germany, supplied by the company's own lorry fleet, because its chilled products need short supply routes. Its stated aim is that no customer should have to drive more than an hour to a stockist. Businesses opening a BARF or pet food shop that want to stock the range contact the support team by email. There is also a factory shop at the Villingen-Schwenningen site.
